Does losing weight get rid of cellulite?

Whether it’s maintaining a strict diet or regularly going to the gym for hours on end, we all work too hard to maintain a lean and fit body. However, no matter the effort, there is always a thorn on our side called cellulite. Cellulite is a skin condition that is prominent in women. Little is known about how it is formed, or even, how to effectively get rid of it since it can be cosmetically displeasing. Other than dry brushing cellulite, it is claimed that losing weight can potentially help get rid of it since cellulite is formed by excess fat deposits in the space between muscles which pushes up your skin, but also pulls down on connective cords, thus giving the skin a dimpled texture. So in an effort to debunk this claim, let’s take a closer look if working out and losing weight can indeed help you get rid of the dreaded skin cellulite.

What can working out potentially do to cellulite?

It is commonly claimed by many that cellulite is formed due to weight gain. Although it is true that cellulite is a build-up of fat, there is no medical evidence to support the link between the two. Moreover, people who are significantly slim and healthy can also become victims of cellulite. So, is working out and losing weight really beneficial to getting rid of cellulite? Doctors suggest that although it cannot fully cure cellulite, working out can help minimise its appearance. NYC dermatologist Dr. Kally Papantoniou, M.D. says that for people who are overweight and are over their recommended BMI level, regular exercise can maybe help them reduce cellulite, while for those who are at their ideal weight, working out may not be effective.

So working out with the aim of losing weight may not be effective in destroying the build-up of fat cells that form cellulite. But it is also claimed that focusing on muscle training can be an effective alternative since it involves training your muscles to become tighter and pushing up your connective cords which can help flatten cellulite. However, this also should not be considered as a magic cure, since it only reduces the appearance of cellulite and does not guarantee that it would not return. A personal trainer from the US-based Crunch fitness suggests that appropriate exercises will help you reduce your body fat and increase muscle strength, thus eventually making your body look leaner and tighter and reducing the appearance of cellulite, but it will always be there.

Can maintaining a diet help reduce cellulite?

It may not be impossible to get rid of cellulite completely, but eating a low-fat diet that is rich in veggies and lean protein can also contribute to fat loss, and thus smoothening out of cellulite. Drinking plenty of water regularly and avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and sugary foods can also be beneficial. Although having a healthy diet may only have a minimal effect on cellulite, it’s no reason to avoid eating healthy foods and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Always make sure to consult a health expert before making any changes to your diet.

Another potential way to reduce cellulite is increasing the blood circulation in your body and your skin. Other than Yoga or simply dry brushing your skin, getting a body massage is a great way to get your blood flowing since it eases the tension in your muscles and relaxes them. But yet again, these may only have temporary effects on your body’s cellulite.

Conclusion

Conclusion

Although working out may not be a total cure to solving the problem of cellulite, it does not mean that people should lay on the couch and eat junk food instead. Eating healthy and exercising regularly have a number of other benefits to our body and mind. Moreover, It is also Ok to not care about cellulite at all since it comes with the part of simply being a woman.
